2005
  • Arranged for informative Guest Speakers at RTA General Meetings:
    • Janet Gilbert & Craig Adams, representing the San Dieguito River Park Land Conservancy, regarding the acquisition of Sutherland East, a critical link for the River Park in Ramona.  RTA has since voted to provide matching funds to all members who make a donation towards the purchase of this land. Contact John for more information.
    • Susan Carter, Deputy Director of the San Diego River Park, spoke about the process of funding and going from ideas and concepts to the ground.
    • Chris Nyce, Recreational & Land Officer, Cleveland National Forest
  • Conducted our first "Camping 101" weekend for rookies to learn from experienced campers
  • Held 1st Annual RTA Swap Meet - this year's focus was to help raise money for a round pen for Holly Oaks Equestrian Facility.
2004
  • Many RTA members pitched in to help friends, neighbors and total strangers clean up after the ravages of Firestorm 2003. One such effort was a project organized by CNF to place hundreds of wattles to prevent errosion on the hillsides overlooking the homes of San Diego Country Estates.
  • Guest Speakers throughout the year helped to keep our members informed of the goings-on in Ramona and surrounding areas
    • Rick Landavazo, the "Oak Man", described the healing and recovery process that the trees are undergoing as they recover from the fires
    • Judy Hayball of the SD County Humane Society Animal Rescue spoke about the issues, pain as well as joy associated with the rescue of domestic animals during disasters
    • Patty Heyden, Ranger for Co. Parks & Recreation, provides regular updates on County Parks & Open Space Preserves
    • Chris Nyce, Ranger for Cleveland National Forest, provded updates on the recovery of forest as well as recruited several RTA members for the newly-forming Volunteer Patrol
  • Sponsored Eagle Scout Projects

    • Kian Satar, Simon Park Picnic Table and Shade Structure, $924.42

  • Trail Maintenance, an integral part of our mission, kept us busy and out of mischief on many a Saturday. A few of those work parties were
  • Held a Board Member Retreat (at no expense to the Assoc.) to brainstorm future activities, volunteerism, budgets, etc.
  • Had many great and fun times at Rides and Hikes throughout the year, including
  • Held Fund-Raisers to continue our mission for trails:
    • Annual Ramona Fourth of July Celebration (RTA provides a horseshoe pit and food booth featuring local corn-on-the-cob)
    • National Trails Day Poker Ride at Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve
    • Cattle Settling - RTA members volunteer to settle cattle at team penning / sorting competitions, with their "wages" going to RTA

February 1999
Obtained plan approvals and funding from Supervisor Diane Jacob for development of staging area at the new Holly Oaks County Park.
January 1999
RTA volunteers installed CNF-supplied staging area sign at Lake Sutherland Staging Area.
October 1998
Held RTA Annual Poker Ride & BBQ at Santa Ysabel Ranch - our most successful fund-raising event ever - nearly 150 participants and 31 volunteers.
September 1998
Submitted joint proposal with San Dieguito River Park for Federal Transportation grant to develop new trails and staging areas in the Cleveland National Forest, in the area surrounding Pamo Valley.

Published Ramona Trails Guide, Second Edition.

Eagle Scouts completed picnic tables and gazebo at Community Park Staging Area.

Coordinated Annual Ramona Rodeo Parade.

Conducted the first cleanup of the Santa Maria Creekbed, eliminating transient "homes", shopping carts, and volumes of other trash.
January 1997
Construction of Archie Moore Rd. Pathway completed. This is the first County Pathway to open in Ramona.

Coordinated Annual Ramona Rodeo Parade.

Partnered with Cleveland National Forest to do massive cleanup of Orosco Ridge, Upper and Lower Santa Ysabel Truck Trails in Pamo Valley area. Over twenty tons of trash was removed as well as an old travel trailer.
